What is a geothermal well?
A geothermal well can be a potable water well or mechanical water well drilled to supply water to a geothermal heating and cooling system for a home or business. A vertical water well system (standing column well) is more economical and effective over the long term for geothermal heating and cooling than a flat field or vertical system of polyethylene pipes containing chemicals (closed loop).
Using a water well for geothermal heating and cooling has not been shown to pollute or harm the water quality or aquifer. Many clients say their water quality has improved.
You might find your architect, construction engineer, or HVAC installer does not offer geothermal water wells as an HVAC solution. The reason could be that they do not know about them, do not know how to design them, or do not have experience installing them. While geothermal HVAC is not a new technology, it is not a technology in which all construction professionals are skilled and knowledgeable because of the overwhelming demand for fossil fuel based systems in the past. Take care to find good HVAC engineers and installers!

Our company has been designing and installing geothermal standing column well systems for heating and cooling (including waste heat recovery and many other creative energy-saving cost-effective designs) for 25 years. We know it works and we want to share what we have learned with you!
- Inform the public about our experience using ground water and heat pumps. We can not design every job in the world, but we can share what we have learned so that you can avoid contractors who just want to make a buck and may not give you the best system for the most economical price. We want you to get the best design, to get the best installation, to have the best geothermal system possible, and for the most reasonable cost.
- Design sound, economical heating and cooling systems for those customers we can serve, using standing column wells, ground water, and heat pumps. We back our design and installation with worry-free service.
- Convert existing systems. Often the most efficient installation of geo can use parts of your existing fossil fuel systems. Existing duct work, existing water wells, all can reduce the cost of geothermal installations even further. Don't let a contractor talk you into ripping everything out and starting from scratch until you have considered the cost-savings and efficiency of converting your current system.
- Repair poorly designed or shoddily installed systems because unfortunately not all HVAC professionals are skilled in implementing geothermal heating and cooling (though they may tell you they are). We see the results and are called in to fix a lot of poor installations. Geothermal HVAC is great when done well--expensive when done poorly!
- Do the math! We make sure the investment pays back in a reasonable length of time. We do an analysis of your building and give you projected energy costs for the new system-- then compare it to your energy costs today. How much will you save each month? How long before you see your construction investment returned through energy cost savings? Geothermal should start to pay for itself in a very short time! In new construction, geothermal should be cost-equivalent to traditional fossil fuel installations.
